A. The story of christmas focuses on one of the greatest miracles ever performed.
1. The miracle is the virgin birth.
2. Of all the miracles in the bible this is the one that is most questioned.
B. Does the virgin birth really make a difference.
1. Most people believe jesus lived.
2. The problem people have is with his divinity.
3. The problem begins with the virgin birth.
C. Many say the virgin birth does not matter.
D. The virgin birth does matter.
1. Without the virgin birth christianity topples as it does with out the resurrection
2. The virgin birth demonstrates god’s power.
3. It was predicted in isaiah 7 hundreds of years before jesus birth.
I. The virgin birth demands we take a position.
A. You cannot be neutral when it comes to jesus.
1. Every aspect of his life demands a position.
2. From the virgin birth to the promised return we must decide.
B. There are those who have a major problem with the virgin birth.
1. A popular magazine, several years ago, did a survey in protestant seminaries. The survey found only 56% of the students believed in the virgin birth. These students are filling the pulpits of america today.
2. Bob ingersoll, noted atheist, when asked why he stopped traveling spreading his poisoned message replied, “the professors in the classroom and the preachers in the pulpit are doing a fine job without my help. I no longer need to denounce these things.”
3. Herod despised the birth of jesus. He was, to him, not a savior come from god, but a threat to his throne.
4. He was to the people of his day a religious figure not a savior born of a virgin. Nothing has changed today.
5. Historians have mocked his birth.
