I. Introduction

A. We live in a day of broken promises. Often they are broken as quickly as they are made.

1. Marriage and family commitments.

2. Promises to god.

3. Reasons for broken promises.

A. Do not intend to keep.

B. Feel can't keep.

C. Don't count the cost.

B. God has always kept his promises.

1. Not one broken

2. Malachi 3 is no exception.

a. Many see this as a negative promise, but it is not.

B. This is a very positive promise.

Ii. The premise

A. God's ownership of all

1. Time and time again the scripture makes reference to god's ownership of all.

A. Life itself: psalm 100:3 know that the lord, he is god: it is he who has made us and not we ourselves. We are his people and the sheep of his pastures.

(1) we were created by god and for god.

(2) we run into major problems when we step out from under that care.

b. Salvation is giving back to god the life he has given you.

C. Our very bodies belong to god. I corinthians 6:19-20: ''do you know that your body is the temple of the holy spirit who is in you, whom you have from god, and your are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify god in your body and in your spirit, which are god's.''

D. Our material blessings belong to god. I chronicles 29:10-17.

2. We see things in such a negative way when we ought to see them in a very positive way.

a. Tithing: we complain about giving god 10% of our money. We ought to rejoice god allows us to use 90% of his money.

B. God's operation.

1. If god owns everything he is most capable of governing it.

A. Our lives-god created us. He knows what we need more than we do.

B. Our possessions. Message is not just about giving but governing.
