I. Introduction

A. If i were to ask you to raise your hand today in answer to the question, ''do you love god,'' probably everyone in here would raise his hand.

1. What does it mean to really love god?

2. Love is a word we toss around rather loosely.

3. When you really love someone there are certain things you love about that person and there are certain things you are willing to do because of your love.

B. Today, i am beginning a month long series on ''because i love god i will love...''

C. The place where we will start is his word.

1. When you love god you will love and trust in what he says.

2. Turn in your bibles to the book of ezra. I want to read from ezra 7:10.

A. Ezra was a prophet who assisted israel in rebuilding their spiritual lives after release from captivity to the babylonians.

B. His primary focus was god's word.

C. ''He was convinced israel needed to return to god by taking seriously his revelation and applying it to every area of their lives.''

D. If we are truly to love god we must love what he has to say to us.

E. To love his word is to...

Ii. Acquaint ourselves with his word.

A. Ezra's goal was to acquaint the people with the word of their god.

1. They had been greatly influenced by the babylonian nation.

2. Their understanding of god's word had greatly diminished.

3. This is true today. We have god's word, but our knowledge of it has been squeezed out by everything else.

B. ''Kids say the darndest things'' by, first, ark linkletter and now bill cosby reveals children's thoughts on many subjects. None are more precious than there thoughts on the bible.

1. One little boy, whose name was max, was asked, ''do you know how god punished adam and eve for eating the apple?'' ''yeah,'' he replied. ''God made 'em sit down and read the bible.''
