I. Introduction
A. Which do you think is most difficult to handle failure or success?
1. Failure is tough. None of us likes to do it, but we all have at one time or another.
2. Tougher still, i believe, is success.
A. With success comes power and influence.
B. Choices have to be made. How do we handle this power and influence.
B. There are two ways to handle success and power.
1. To help people.
2. Abuse people.
C. It's not easy handling success and power.
1. It's tough to handle power with humility and unselfishness.
2. It is very important we handle success correctly.
D. It takes two things.
1. The grace of god.
2. Conscious decision.
E. That's the promise god makes in galatians 5 when he says a result of the christ controlled life is ''gentleness.''
1. God will empower us with gentleness.
2. We choose to allow it to control our actions.
F. The greatest example is jesus.
1. Matthew 21:5.
2. Jesus wasn't trying to impress anyone.
3. He wasn't looking out primarily for himself.
4. There was a confidence his father was in control.
g. There are four areas of our lives critical to a gentle spirit.
Ii. Personality.
A. We all have 1 of 4 personality types.
1. Choleric: take charge and be in control.
2. Melancholic: dot all the ''i's'' and cross all the ''t's''.
3. Phlegmatic: quiet on the outside.
4. Sanguine: it's party time.
B. Each of these has tendencies in their on way not to be gentle.
