Title: World History - God's Story (7)
Series: Daniel and His Friends
Author: Stephen Whitney
Text: Daniel 2:31-45
In the Sistine Chapel in Rome is a statue of Jeremiah and behind him are also statues of two young men behind him. One has his head down as if reflecting with sadness upon the messages of judgment and coming disaster. But on the other side is a young man looking toward the horizon. He is a symbol of hope for the future.
Jeremiah wrote to the people living in captivity in Babylon.
Jeremiah 29:11 I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a hope and a future.
Hope allows us to bypass the agonies and disappointments of this world and peek into the future kingdom of God. It has been well said, "A person can live for 40 days without food, 7 days without water and a few minutes without air; but he cannot live even one second without hope."
There is no medicine like hope - the expectation that tomorrow will be better than today. For the Christian hope is not just pie in the sky, but a firm belief that someday Jesus will come again just as he promised. When he comes, he will bring with him the kingdom of God promised to those who have trusted Christ as their Savior.
