I. INTRODUCTION

A. AS WE COME TO THE CONCLUSION OF THE
20TH CENTURY WHO WOULD HAVE
THOUGHT?

1. OUR BIGGEST THREAT WOULD NOT BE
WAR WITH A FOREIGN POWER BUT
THE WAR ON DRUGS ON OUR OWN
STREETS.

2. STATES WOULD BE DEBATING
LEGISLATION ON SAME SEX
MARRIAGES.

3. CHRISTIAN FREEDOM WOULD BE
GAINED IN SOME COMMUNIST
COUNTRIES AND THREATENED IN THE
U.S..

4. CHILDREN WOULD FEAR GOING TO
SCHOOL NOT BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T
DO THEIR HOMEWORK, BUT BECAUSE
OF LIFE THREATENING ATTACKS BY
OTHER STUDENTS.

5. THE SECULAR WORLD WOULD START
TALKING ABOUT DEMONS AND THE
SPIRIT WORLD AND THE CHURCH
WOULD STOP TALKING ABOUT THESE
THINGS. (YOUNG BOY RECENTLY
BLAMED DEMONS FOR THE MURDER
OF HIS MOTHER.)

6. ONE OF HOTTEST SHOWS ON
TELEVISION WOULD BE THE JERRY
SPRINGER SHOW. (STUDENTS LAST
WEEK BEAT UP THEIR TEACHER
BECAUSE SHE WOULD NOT LET THEM
WATCH THE SHOW.)

B. THERE ARE CRITICAL ISSUES FACING US AS
WE CONCLUDE THE 20TH CENTURY AND
MOVE TOWARDS THE 21ST CENTURY.

1. THE FUTURE OF OUR NATION IS AT
STAKE.

2. THE LIVES OF PEOPLE WE LOVE ARE
AFFECTED TREMENDOUSLY BY THESE
ISSUES.

C. THESE ARE ISSUES WE ALL MUST DEAL
WITH AS INDIVIDUALS.

1. THEY AFFECT US DIRECTLY AND
INDIRECTLY.

2. THEY DEMAND WE DECIDE WHAT WE
BELIEVE AND WHY WE BELIEVE THE
WAY WE DO.

3. THESE ARE ISSUES THAT DEMAND WE
DEVELOP A STRATEGY FOR DEALING
WITH THEM WHEN THEY ARISE IN OUR
LIVES OR THE LIVES OF PEOPLE WE
KNOW AND LOVE.

D. GALATIANS 5 DEALS WITH THIS DILEMMA.

1. GALATIANS 5 TELLS US THERE ARE
CERTAIN BEHAVIORS THAT MUST BE
CONQUERED

2. THIS PASSAGE TELLS US HOW WE
SHOULD AND SHOULD NOT DEAL
WITH THESE BEHAVIORS AND ISSUES.

E. FOR THE NEXT WEEKS WE WILL DEAL WITH
SOME OF THE MOST PRESSING SOCIAL
ISSUES AFFECTING OUR NATION AT THIS
TIME.
