A Mother's Honor

I. Introduction

A. ''We are living in a changing world. Motherhood, the american flag, and apple pie are three things known for their stability and national appeal. Today, however, the price of apples is inflated, the flag is at times mistreated, and even motherhood is abused.''

B. Today is mother's day.

1. It is the day when the nation honors its more than 50 million moms.

2. I am told more phone calls are recorded on this day than any other day of the year.

C. There is no more godly servant than that of a godly mom.

1. We have been in a series based on jesus washing the feet of the disciples.

2. This has been a springboard for us into lessons on what it means for all of us to have the attitude of christ when it comes to service.

3. We have been talking about ''picking up the towel''.

4. One mom said to me, ''i do pick up the towel, i wash it, fold it, and put it away. Along comes someone else and puts it right back in the floor again.''

5. After an elementary teacher gave a science lesson on magnets, she gave the students a quiz to see how much they had learned. One of the questions read, ''my name starts with 'm.' i have six letters and i pick up things. What am i?'' half the class answered with the six letter word, ''mother.''

D. Mom is key to a healthy nation.

1. Theodore roosevelt said, ''the mother is the one supreme asset of national life. She is more important, by far, than the successful statesman, business man, artist, or scientist.''

2. Abraham lincoln said, ''no man is poor who has a godly mother.''

3. Lincoln also said upon becoming president, ''all that i am, or can become, i owe to my angel mother.''

4. One leader said, give me a generation of christian mothers and i will undertake to change the whole face of society in twelve months.''

E. The bible is filled with wonderful moms.
