The Next Time He Comes

I. Introduction

A. A recent news magazine did an article predicting the world's top news events. They were:

1. A cure for cancer.

2. World peace.

3. Life on other planets.

4. The return of jesus christ.

B. Eventually all will come true.

1. When jesus establishes his kingdom there will be no cancer, no wars or disputes, and there will be life on other worlds. Those who are in christ will live in a world where god resides.

2. All this is based on the 4th event, the return of jesus christ.

C. Last sunday was easter

1. Easter leaves us with a question.

2. What happened to christ after the resurrection.

3. Acts 1 gives to us the answer to that question.

D. Acts 1 tells us several things happen as a result of the resurrection.

1. You have the ongoing ''ministry of christ''.

2. You have the ongoing ''mission of the church''.

3. You have the ''message to creation'' that christ will one day return.

E. Today, we will look at all three of these happenings.

Ii. The ministry of christ. Vs. 1-7

A. You have inescapable proof of the resurrection.

1. After the resurrection jesus remained on the earth for 40 days ministering to the disciples.

A. They never knew when and where he might show up. (kind of like unexpected company.)

b. We today don't know when he may return, so our situation is similar. (keep the house in order.)

2. Some of the believers may have had doubts before, but there was no question now he had raised from the dead.

A. He gave them ''infallible proof'' he had resurrected.

B. He invited them to touch him, eat with him, and spend time with him.

3. The gospel is the good news of the death and resurrection of jesus.

A. The term gospel means ''good news''.

B. I have a cup on my desk someone gave me. The words on the outside simply read, ''good news''. This is a reminder of the resurrection.
