A friend was in front of me coming out of church one day, and the preacher was standing at the door as he always is to shake hands. He grabbed my friend by the hand and pulled him aside.

The Pastor said to him, "You need to join the Army of the Lord!"

My friend replied, "I'm already in the Army of the Lord, Pastor." Pastor questioned, "How come I don't see you except at Christmas and Easter?"

He whispered back, "I'm in the secret service."

Introduction:

Paul is continuing to instruct the people on how to conduct the worship service, and for the Corinthians, they were like a bunch of wild animals fussing, and fighting against each other! They had confusion going on where everyone was trying to speak at the same time, and it was turning unbelievers away from the church. Paul gives his instructions in the next few verses on how to have a worship service that honors God and edifies the church!

Body:
21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.

God uses people of all ages and nationality to communicate the glorious news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and yet there are many who will not listen to it, and that will be the cause of their condemnation!

22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

The purpose of tongues is to instruct those who are interested in the Gospel of Jesus Christ understand the Gospel in their native tongue, but biblical preaching is for all to be edified and instructed for both the lost to hear the plan of salvation, and for the saved to be built up in the most Holy Faith, and become stronger in their walk with the Lord!
