Introduction

A. A recent episode of candid camera Revealed the power of persuasion. A Fake border guard was set up at the Borders of mississippi and texas. As People tried to enter the state they Were told texas was full and no one Else could enter until some people Left. One man was pretty persistent. Finally in exasperation he asked, Where can i go? The fake guards said, ''You can go to louisiana. I hear That's a good state.'' in defeat he Turned his car around and proceeded To leave.

B. Another episode revealed the power Of peer pressure. A man walked into a Doctor's office only to find all the Patients sitting in their underwear. The man sits uncomfortably while Others enter. As they do they strip Down to their underwear. The man Slowly begins taking off his clothes Til he sits in his underwear. About This time all the folks in the room, Who are actors, say, ''smile, you are On candid camera.





C. The pressure to conform is powerful. It is so for all of us, but especially so In the lives of teens.

D. A study was done by a group of Doctors about how group pressure Influenced young people. They Invited 10 teenagers into a room and Told them they were going to Evaluate their perception and see How well each student saw the front Of the room. What the doctors were Really checking was the effect of Group pressure. The students were Told cards would be held up and on Each card there would be three lines, Lines a, b, andamp;c. Each line would be of a Different length. We will hold the Cards and point to each line the Students were told. When we point to The longest line please raise your Hand. The directions were repeated So everyone understood. The first Card was raise and the top line was Pointed to. What one student didn't Know was that the other nine were Instructed to always vote for the 2nd Longest line no matter what. The Doctors held up the first card ...
