Text: Ephesians 1:7-14
We are in a Collection of Sermons going through Ephesians, which we are breaking up into Series.
For Eph 1 we are doing a series called KNOWN talking about how we are KNOWN by Christ!!
Last week we opened up and locked in on our Identity...
Key statement last week: Don't find your identity in what you do or what others say. Find your identity in the fact that you are KNOWN by a loving God who sent his son Jesus to die on the cross for you and longs to be in a relationship with you.
We praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ because He CHOSE us before the creation of time - He KNEW us before we were born
In Love, He predetermined that he would adopt us even while we were still sinners.
So we praise Him for his glorious grace that he has freely given.
I love how it continues in vs. 7....
Eph 1:7-14 (NIV)
7 In him (Jesus) we have redemption through his blood,
Can we pause for a 2nd and look at the word redemption?
Redemption signifies we have been put into slavery or bondage.
What we are in Slavery or Bondage too? SIN! Sin separates us from a perfect God.
During the 1st century when the New Testament was written, these letters would have been delivered.
The Roman Emperor would have had 6 million slaves. The buying and selling of them was a major business.
For one of the slaves to be Freed someone must buy them and then set them free. Someone had to pay the price.
Once they did that slave would be taken to who they were made to be - FREE.
Under slavery, they are who the owner wants them to be.
Under freedom, they can be who God created them to be.
They are Redeemed - taken back to their original state of being.
When Paul pins through the blood of Christ we have been redeemed he is reminding the Ephesian church that Jesus paid the price for you to be taken back to your origin ...
