INTRODUCTION:
What will ministry in the coming century look like?
What is the traditional approach to ministry?
1) Begin with a program.
2) Find some people to staff the program.
3) Sell the program. Promotion
4) Carry out the program.
5) Maintain the program.
This traditional program driven approach to ministry is one we know all too well. The problem is that many times our programs do not reach the people we intended. Even after the program has ceased to work, we still keep it going. We are all left thinking that promoting programs is really not what church ministry is supposed to be about.
"Webster's New World Dictionary defines ministry as "that which serves". A ministry, therefore, is that which actually meets a need. For a need to be met, two things have to be in place for biblical ministry to occur. 1) a real need to be met, 2) a person or resource that can effectively meet that need." In our passage of Scripture we find principles for effective ministry.
I) HAVE A DAILY WALK WITH GOD- VS. 1
This is certainly a foundational principle. If we are to be effective in ministry we must have an intimate walk with Jesus.
Peter - The most prominent of the 12 apostles. He was the first disciple to named an apostle, the first to openly recognize Jesus as the Messiah, the first apostle to witness the resurrection and the first to preach to the Gentiles.
Peter and James and John had been Jesus most intimate disciples during his earthly ministry.
John was the brother of James. He was a fisherman, the son of Zebedee. Jesus called him and his bro ...
