Introduction

1. Last week we were introduced To solomon's favorite term: ''Vanity of vanities:.
2. There is another term used by Solomon that describes his Search for happiness. It is ''Vexation of the spirit.' vs. 14,17.
3. The term translated is ''chasing The wind.''
B. The focus of the book is on people who Try to find happiness in things Beneath the sun.
1. Living life from a totally Earthly perspective.
2. It is a life that involves a Personal search for happiness Apart from god.
C. This is a futile search. It's like Chasing the wind.
Ill. Jerry vines uses the illustration of Soap bubble we kids played with when We were young. You blow the bubbles And then chase them. What happens When you catch up with one. You Attempt to catch it, but it pops. The Same thing happens when we attempt To find happiness in this life alone.
D. There are some things we chase after, That within themselves cannot bring Happiness.
I. Learning. 1:12-18.
A. Solomon determined he would find Happiness through human Intelligence.
1. Vs. 13: ''i set my heart...'' applied My mind. ''To seek...'' get to the root. ''Search...'' to explore from all Sides. What solomon was saying was, ''I'm going to do a thorough Investigation.''
2. Try he did. I kings 4:32-34
''He spoke three thousand proverbs, And his songs were one thousand and Five. Also he spoke of trees, from the Cedar tree of lebanon even to the Hyssop that springs out of the wall, He spoke also of animals, of birds, of Creeping things, and of fish. And men Of all nations, from all the kings of The earth who had heard of his Wisdom, came to hear the wisdom of Solomon.''
