A. ''Singleness is on the rise in the united states. By the year 2000, predictions are That over « of all adults over 18 will be single. Not since 1890 has such a small Percentage of americans been married. Between 1965 and 1989, the unmarried Population of the united states grew from 27% to 43% with no slowdown in sight.'' Current thoughts and trends, july 1993.

B. These are revealing statistics. Among other things the church should be made Aware of the importance of ministry to and the ministry of single adults.

C. The bible portrays many singles.

1. Timothy.

2. Elijah.

3. Barnabas.

4. Jesus.

D. In today's message we will look at:

1. Myths about singles.

2. Mistakes singles make.

3. Maximizing your singleness.

I. Myths about singles.

A. The only happy people are married people.

There are too many myths among married adults and the church about the single Life. These must be dispelled. This is especially true of the myth a person cannot Be happy unless married. I know a lot of married folks who are not happy and a lot of single folks who are!

B. All singles are sexually frustrated.

Ill. National surveys have revealed the frustrations of singles.

1. Acceptable entertainment.

2. Managing personal finances.

3. Developing rewarding friendships as singles.

4. Raising children as a single parent.

5. Sexual frustration was 5th on the list.



C. The right person will solve all one's problems.

Ill. This is the reason so many comments are made by married folks. There is the Idea everyone should be married. That's just the opposite of what paul said in i Corinthians 7.

D. All singles are lonely.

There is a big difference in being alone and being lonely.
