I. Introduction

A. Life is filled with struggles. Not even progress has alleviated Struggles. In fact, i believe, progress, has increased our Struggles.

Ill. Great book, margins, by richard a. Swenson, m.d., navpress: Talks about progress. He doesn't condemn progress as such; he Only cautions us against allowing progress to condemn us by Destroying what is really important. In this book swenson Speaks of environments in which all live. There are 5 of these: He states, ''much of our progress has been in two areas: physical Environment (wealth, technology, health.) This is the material World. Then there has been progress in the cognitive Environment, or the intellectual world (knowledge, Information, and education). ''Most of our pain,'' swenson says, ''Has been in three areas: social environment (family, friends, Neighbors, church). Emotional environment (feelings, Attitudes). This is the psychological world. The spiritual Environment (the eternal).

There is a great struggle to balance these worlds.

B. Life's greatest struggle, i believe, is the struggle between What's right and what's expedient. That which is the right thing To do and that which is the easiest to do.

Ill. We fight that battle in many areas of our lives: relationships, Emotions, attitudes, and the spiritual.

Ill. What's easiest? Studying and making good grades, or just Goofing off and hopefully getting by. What's easiest? Working on the problems within the marriage, Or just walking away? What's easiest? Rearranging the schedule to take care of Ourselves and our families or to continue fighting the rat Race? What's easiest exercising or remaining out of shape?

What is easiest isn't always right or best.

C. We are a society committed to instant gratification. What feels Good right now. No thought of the consequences for the Future. Just now!
