Title: Stay In Your Lane
Author: Dr. Darrow Perkins
Text: Romans 12:3-13
INTRODUCTION: I have a question for you...how many of you like it when you know what you're doing, know when it needs to be done, know how it's supposed to be done, but somebody comes along and try to tell you their version of what's supposed to take place? They may not be fully aware of what's going on, yet they want to impose their will on you. Now, don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with people offering advice when asked for, but the problem comes in when the advice is unsolicited, even to the point that they think they know better than you.
Something happens when people begin to impose their will on others First, confusion steps in (why do they think they need to tell me how to do my job/gift?), then anger may show up (they get mad because they said something or even how they said it), followed by frustration (can't do what I need to do because they are all over me trying to tell me what to do!), then attitudes will show up, after which there's so much talk about what supposed to get done that nothing gets done!
We all must come to the understanding that (look at somebody and say) I am not you, you are not me, and we are not each other, so it would stand to reason that we all have our own ideas as to how things should be accomplished. Your gifts are not my gifts; my gifts are not your gifts, but something happens when we begin to bring our collective gifts together for a common cause. What better cause in this context than the Cause of Christ.
Everybody in the Kingdom of God has work to do. We don't all have the same work to do, but nonetheless, there is work for all of us that needs to be done. The best way for us to get the work done it to know what work we're required to do, then you must "Stay In Your Lane!"
