Title: What Is Your Measure Of Faith?
Author: Dr. Darrow Perkins
Text: Romans 12:3
INTRODUCTION: The writer to the Hebrews gives us the Biblical definition of faith that reads, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." This definition is the building block by which we're able to operate by faith because it tells us that faith does not deal with the natural or tangible, but definitely the spiritual. Others have taken a look at this definition and have provided the following:
The New American Standard Bible: "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."
The Amplified Bible: "Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title-deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality-faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses."
William Barclay: "Faith is a hope that is absolutely certain that what is believes is true, and that what it expects will come."
Wycliffe Bible Commentary: "Faith is trust in the unseen. It is not trust in the unknown, for we may know by faith what we cannot see with the eye."
Matthew Henry writes: "It [faith] is a firm persuasion and Christ; and this persuasion is so strong that it gives the soul...possession...of those things."
These other expository writings concerning faith give us a clearer and broader understanding as to how faith works in our lives. When we understand these things, I believe we must ask ourselves the question, "How much faith do I have?" Let's talk about, "What Is Your Measure of Faith?"
