Title: Praising God Through Your Storm
Author: Dr. Darrow Perkins
Text: Psalm 27:1-6
INTRODUCTION: I made a statement that we need valley experiences in our lives to help us appreciate the mountain top. A valley is a low point in your life, and a storm can be considered a turbulent time or season. Things are going bad; times are getting rough; situations get bad, and the harder you try to make it better or make it work, resistance is always there. Somebody even said that it seems to get worse before it gets better. When you hear a statement like that, you have to make a decision as to how you will proceed. This is when attitude, praise, and faith comes in.
The Rev. Kerry Bauman says, "Attitude really matters, doesn't it? It can make the difference between a good day and a bad day, a good marriage and a bad marriage, perhaps even a good life and a bad life."1 Chuck Swindoll also made a comment about attitude and he says, "Words can never adequately convey the incredible impact of our attitude toward life. The longer I live the more convinced I become that life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we respond to it."2
It's no coincidence the Bible teaches us that our attitude has a lot to do with our relationship with the Lord and how we need to make some changes. In Romans 12:2 it states, "And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God."
So what should we do when the storms of life start raging all around us? We could get an umbrella and force our way through it, or we can stand tall and start praising God and watch what God does to the storm. The choice is ours; we need to decide how much of the storm we want to handle, or if we want God to handle the storm for us. You can look out on the horizon and see the clouds forming, see the storm coming, and do nothing, or, you can start praising God and watch your storm obey His voice. I w ...
