INTRODUCTION: Today we're wrapping up our sermon series entitled "Mission Possible." The mission of the church was articulated by Jesus in Matthew 28:18-20 "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything that I've commanded you. And I am with you, even to the end of the age." This series has been about what makes our mission possible.

Let's review what we've said so far with a quiz. So far, we have had FOUR sermons in this series. That makes today's sermon number what? Five. That's right, you're doing great on this quiz. But the questions are going to get more challenging.

1) In sermon one we said that "Buy-in" makes the mission possible. I told a story about NASA engineers who had to scramble to figure out how to make an air filter out of cardboard, tube socks and duct tape to save the astronauts on which Apollo flight? Apollo 13. The point was if we know the "why" we'll figure out the "what." We buy into the mission because of the Lordship of Jesus and our love for our neighbor.

2) In sermon two we said that a TEAM makes the mission possible, and that team is the church. I told the story of Clyde Beatty the lion tamer who used a whip and a chair to tame lions. Which was more important, the whip or the chair? That's right, the chair, because the lion is DISTRACTED by the four legs of the chair. Like the lion, we are easily distracted. One of the ways the church helps us to stay on mission is to refocus our attention to the fact that we have a higher purpose in life which includes the Great Commission.
