Introduction

A. The ten commandments are back in court again.

Martin mccaffery, of the aclu, says, ''he was looking for a
Fight. Ok, he's got it.'' mccaffery went on to say, ''the question
Is, do you want the government telling you when, where, and
How to pray? It's so simple. He has turned his courtroom into
A place of worship.''

Moore states, ''the separaton of church and state was never
Meant to separate god from government. It was meant to
Prevent the government from intefering with our religious
Institutions and affairs.'' (the atlanta journal/the atlanta constitution,

B. Today's message will focus on the second commandment.

1. At first glance this commandment appears to be the same
As the first.

2. Actually it is not a continuation. It is not the worship of false gods
Condemned here. It is a warning not to worship the true God falsely.

3. The second commandment takes the first one a step further. The first
Commandment teaches us not to worship any God but the True One. The
Second commandment teaches us not to worship any representation of
God.

C. Idolatry is the worship of anything representation of God.

1. It is not an admonition against the creation of all representations, ie,,
Christian art, etc.. It is the admonition not to replace the worship of God
With the worship of these representations.

2. In the Old Testament idols were made of wood, stone, brass, gold, etc..
