The Twenty-third Psalm
Larry Wynn
Introduction
A. How many of us can say we have everything we want?
1. One of the marks of american culture is a distinct lack Of satisfaction with what we have.
2. This dis-satisfaction affects every area of our lives.
3. It also affects almost everyone of us.
B. How many of us have everything we need?
1. The problem of many is they do not need all they want And do not want all they need.
2. The greatest need is jesus christ. When we have him we Have what we need.
C. The 23rd psalm illustrates this well.
1. ''The lord is my shepherd'' john 10:11 tells us this is jesus. ''I am the good shepherd''
2. All the difference in the world is made by one little Word, ''my''.
Ill. May be able to say he is a good shepherd or even a great Shepherd, but the key is to be able to say he is my Shepherd.
D. The 23rd psalm reminds us god provides:
I. Rest. ''The lord is my shepherd...he maketh me to lie down in green Pastures.''
This speaks of the rest the lord gives. A sheep will not lie down Until it is content.
So many are tired today. It seems as if the burden is more than People can bear.
A. We come to jesus. ''He maketh me''
1. It is not a matter of coming to church or to some duty Or responsibility.
2. It is a matter of coming to jesus, meeting him face to Face.
B. We commit our burdens to him.
1. Our sin.
2. Our sorrow.
3. Our stress.
Ill. So many times we lay our burdens to him and pick them up Again. Suppose you had $10,000 in your pocket. You would Worry about losing it or someone stealing it. But, you could Go to the bank, fill out a deposit slip, and give it to the Banker. You would not sit on the steps of the bank with a gun And stand guard. It is still your money, but you have Committed it to the care of another.
Ii. Refreshment. ''He leadeth me beside still waters. He restoreth my Soul.''
A. This speaks of refreshment.
1. Life takes it out of us. Life ...
