Introduction

A. ''Unless god's people have a clear understanding of where they are headed, the probability of a successful journey is severely limited.''

B. Vision is a powerful thing.

1. When alexander the great had a vision, he conquered countries; when he lost it, he couldn't conquer a liquor bottle.

2. When david had a vision, he conquered goliath; and when he lost his vision, he couldn't conquer his own lust.

3. When elijah had a vision, he could pray down fire from heaven; when he lost the dream he ran from jezebel.



C. Vision is a needed thing today.

1. John maxwell, ''vision is the world's most desperate need. There are no hopeless situations, only people who think hopelessly.''

2. Too many people are satisfied with the status quo.

Ill. Someone has said, the status quo defined as ''the mess we are in.''

C. The development and deployment of a dream is need of the church today. We need to dream the dream again.

D. Today, we will look at some keys to instilling vision and selling the dream.

I. There is a course to be charted.

( a dream doesn't just become a reality. There is a course that must be set. )

In a church:

A. The pastor is primary.

1. Dr. Warren bennis, professor of management university of southern california has recently completed a four year study of outstanding leaders and examined the source of their power. Dr. Bennis discovered what he believes are five competencies common to all key leaders.

A. Vision: the capacity to create a compelling vision of a desired state of affairs.

B. Communication: the capacity to communicate that vision in a way that gains the support of the constituents.

C. Persistence: the capacity to maintain the organization's direction, especially when the going gets tough.

D. Empowerment: the capacity to create a system that harnesses the energies and abilities of others to get ...
