"When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown". (Isaiah 43:2 NLT)

Introduction:

In 2004, the shoreline of my beloved and beautiful country, Sri Lanka, was devastated by a horrifying and massive tsunami. The destruction caused in just a few minutes was unimaginable, with close to 40,000 lives lost and thousands of homes wiped out. The rebuilding process was a difficult one as thousands of families and an entire nation had to come to grips with a disaster that no one envisaged. It remains a day that is commemorated every year in my country.
Turbulent waters like floods and tsunamis, dramatically alter people's lives, many times leading to loss of life and possessions. The term "deep or turbulent waters" could be described as waters that are too deep or too turbulent (dangerous) for us to cross safely. However, when confronted by such waters (trials) in our spiritual life, we can trust God to carry us to safety by His mighty hand. Through His help, we will find strength to cross to the other side.
Proposition: Jesus will always carry us safely through 'Deep Waters'.
In this sermon I would like to draw attention to four instances in the Bible where God promised help to his people to cross 'Deep Waters'.

I. CROSSING THE WATERS OF THE RED SEA - Exodus 14

The people of Israel had just come out from horrifying slavery in Egypt and were camped at the Red Sea. Excitement and a sense of adventure was in the air as they were journeying towards The Promised Land - a land flowing with milk and honey.

It was then that trouble struck as Pharaoh decided that he had erred badly in releasing the Israelites from captivity. As his soldiers started pursuing them with great hatred, the people of Israel found themselves well and truly trapped. Behind them were hundreds of Egyptian chariots and in front of them ...
