Series Name: Prayer and Spiritual Warfare

1.0 Prayer is Making a Request of God.

1.1 Jesus taught much about prayer.

A) Everyone has an opinion about prayer as they do about politics, race relations, marriage, and making money.

Christopher Hichens, a prominent atheist said, "The notion of a selective God who chooses which prayers to answer and which to ignore has led many to abandon the belief in the efficacy of prayer."

i. Mastery involves practicing humility and dependence towards God.

ii. Mastery involves patience and understanding of God's timing.

Philip Yancey, popular Christian author writes, "Many have stopped believing in the power of prayer because they feel their petitions have gone unanswered, leading to a crisis of faith."

iii. Yet, we are not to give up on praying. "Men ought always to pray and never give up" (Luke 18:1).

Luke 11:9-10 (NIV)-9 So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be ...
