A.america was shocked wednesday when oklahoma city was rocked by a bomb that left dozens dead including children.
1.within minutes every major news wire in the country was carrying the story of this senseless and insane act by some demonized coward!
2.the atlanta constitution on thursday headlined the story with one word in very large letters. ''Why?''
''Why here? Why now? And most maddenly, why the children?''
B.a growing fear gnaws at the hearts of american citizens.
1.as a result of this tragedy experts on the mass psychology of terrorism warn that the whole country has been victimized and is headed for a painful bout of survivors' syndrome. (atl. Const., apr. 20, 1995)
2.this is a growing fear resulting not only from this tragedy but the entire climate of the world. Terrorism, assault, and other vicious crimes have created a real climate of fear in people.
C.students of the bible are saddened and angered but not shocked when events of this nature occur. One only has to read what jesus said about the deteriorating condition of society to understand these are events of last days.
1.these are events predicted in the scrip- ture.
2.what does the bible have to say about the condition of the world in last days?
3.to understand this principle one must explore bible prophecy.
Ii.reactions to bible prophecy of end times.
(there are two extremes to the study of prophecy.)
A.obsession.
1.there are those who are totally and com- pletely absorbed in the study of prophecy and end times. This is the only area of the bible that matters to them. They will spend hours trying to calculate numbers and years to match prophetic numerology in the bible, yet they can't see the numbers of hurting people around who need a positive word from god.
