Title: Do You Want Revival
Author: Jerry Watts
Text: Psalms 119:37, 88, 156 / Psalms 85:5 / 2 Chronicles 7:14
- Let's begin this message by reading scripture...
- Psalm 119:156: "Great are Thy mercies, O Lord; Revive me according to Thine ordinances"
- Psalm 119:88: "Revive me according to Thy lovingkindness, So that I may keep the testimony of Thy mouth."
- Psalm 119:37: "Turn away my eyes from looking at vanity and revive me in Thy ways."
- Psalm 85:6: "Wilt Thou not Thyself revive us again, That Thy people may rejoice in Thee?"
- Did you catch the personal pronouns? In these 4 Old Testament passages ( NKJV), we read, Revive! In later translations, it is rendered, "Give Us Life." Life could be a good one-word definition for REVIVAL! Please turn to 2 Chronicles 7 and we will get there in a minute.
- Tonight I ask you this question; "Do YOU want revival?" Think about it before you answer. The question is not, "Does our country, county, or community need it?" The question is not "Do churches need it?" It's not "Does this church need it?" The question before us as we sit in the Lord's house as the Lord's people is, "Do I really want it?" Before you answer that question too quickly and maybe too rashly, it's important that we know what it is. "Come now, Let's reason together. Tho your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow." Isaiah 1:18
1. Revival - What is it? I have listened to sermons, read books, papers, and have searched God's word about this thing of "Revival."
- Revival is falling in love with Jesus all over again - Vance Havner.
- Revival is a renewal of spiritual life in an individual or among a group of people - Don Robinson
- "Revival is a return to spiritual health after a period of decline into sin and broken fellowship with God... Revival is for God's people when they need to be forgiven and restored to life, spiritual health, and vitality" -H. Blackaby & C. King
- It is the return of spiritua ...
