INTRODUCTION: We're in a sermon series entitled Family Matters/Love matters. We're incorporating the Biblical descriptions of love from I Corinthians 13:4-7 into our families. We've seen that Biblical love is patient, kind, generous, true, and forgiving. Last week we began looking at I Corinthians 13:7 "Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things" and its implications for "lasting love." We talked about "bearing all things" as protecting our families and "believing all things" as believing the best about our families. Today I want to look at the last two descriptions in that verse and their implications for lasting love and lasting families. But first, the caveats.
1) I understand that there are Biblical grounds for divorce and remarriage, i.e., adultery, abandonment, and abuse. Anyone who's being abused should get out of that situation. We have no interest in judging anyone who's been divorced.
2) Our goal in this series is to strengthen our existing families and marriages as well as to help prepare and equip those who are single and desire to be married someday. Please hear today's message through that filter.
3) Being single is also within God's will. Jesus was single. Paul wrote that he wished everyone could be single like him (I Corinthians 7:7). The Bible says that singles can serve God in a more focused and undivided way than married people can. Leverage your singleness for greater Kingdom service.

The Greek word elpizo. It means "to look forward to something with a sense of confidence about it coming to pass."
