INTRODUCTION

A. In John 4 we meet a woman with great needs in her life.

1. There were traces of fading beauty in her face.

2. There were also evidences of sadness, emptiness, and disillusionment.

3. She was a woman whose life was filled with many problems.

B. We meet a Savior who understands the needs of this woman and is able to meet those needs.

1. Jesus was man and experienced what we do.

a. Jesus became hungry and ate food.

b. He became thirsty and drank water.

c. As man He understands our needs.

2. He is God and can meet our needs.

C. All the needs of mankind can be met through Jesus Christ.

ILLUSTRATION: Like a master surgeon he deals with the needs of this woman.

I. HE DEALS WITH THE PROBLEMS OF RESENTMENT. V.7-9

A. HE DEALS WITH PAST HURTS.

1. There were several reasons for hurt in this ladies life.

a. People. She was the town out- cast.

(1.) Relationships with men.

(2.) Experiences with society.

b. Personal. She had caused many of her problems.

c. Prejudice. She had been taught to be prejudice towards the Jews.

ILLUSTRATION: Prior teaching can be a very harmful thing.

2. There were results of this hurt.

a. Anger.

b. Fear.

c. Skepticism.

B. JESUS DELIVERS HELP FOR THE PRESENT.

1. Jesus gave no evidence of prejudice in dealing with this woman.

2. There is neither male nor female, Greek nor Jew with Jesus.

3. Radical feminism says women need to rebel and usurp their authority.

4. Jesus says you can be you.

a. Whatever happened to a woman being a woman and a man being a man. b. The issue isn't superiority.

ILLUSTRATION: Everyone knows a woman is superior at being a woman.

c. The issue is roles.

II. RESTLESSNESS. VS. 10-17

A. THERE IS AN UNDERLYING SOURCE OF RESTLESS- NESS. VS. 10-12

1. Lack of understanding of the Gift of God.

2. Lack of understanding of the power of God.
