INTRODUCTION
A. Suppose you were standing before God right now and He asked you why should He let you into His heaven. What would you say?
B. Are you sure you will go to heaven? Are you prepared to meet God? Are you sure one day and not so sure the next.
C. This is a common problem.
1. Even though the Bible says we can know many struggle with this issue.
2. This brings great misery.
3. Only one thing better than being saved and that is being saved and knowing it.
ill. A man desperately wanted to travel home to his family. This was in the days of travel by sea. Was given a ticket. Very poor man so he carried a meager supply of food. He carried cheese and crackers. It was only days later he learned his full fare had been paid including meals. He was overjoyed when he learned he could enjoy the journey.
ill. There are a lot of people traveling on crackers and cheese.
D. What produces doubt?
I. FAULTY SALVATION.
A. IT IS POSSIBLE TO BE DECEIVED.
1. Matthew 7 says, ''Many shall say to me in that day...''
2. Parable in Matthew 13 of the Wheat and Tares.
B. WHAT BRINGS DECEPTION?
1. SUBSTITUTES FOR JESUS.
2. LACK OF UNDERSTANDING. No one dealt with you and you didn't really under- stand what the commitment was all about.
3. WRONG INTENTIONS.
a. You made a decision because a friend did.
b. You found yourself in a bad situation, so you called on God. When the trouble had passed you went back to your old life.
c. Met a Christian, straightened up your life and got involved in church.
II. FEAR.
A. WORTHINESS.
1. ''I'm just not worthy'', you say.
2. How right you are. You are not wor- thy and neither am I. ...
