John 5:11-12
INTRODUCTION
A. Have you come to a place in your life that you know for certain you have eternal life and that you will go to heaven when you die?
1. This is a familiar question.
2. It is the first exploratory question of the Gospel presentation of CWT.
B. The truth is many do not know the answer to that question.
1. There was a time when I didn't know. Even though I was in church I wasn't sure about may salvation.
2. The answer to that question has eternal significance.
C. Many feel you cannot know.
1. I John is a wonderful little book.
a. It is authored by the same per- son who gave us Revelation.
b. In this book we are told we can know we are saved.
2. There are 105 verses. 26 verses use the word know in some form. Almost 1/4 of the book is given to assurance.
3. I John gives to us evidence of salva- tion. We are told when we are saved there will be evidence.
D. For the next two weeks we are going to deal with assurance. Today: Evidence. Next week: Doubt. I. ACCEPT GOD'S PROVISION OF SALVATION JOHN 5:11-12
A. SOURCE OF SALVATION. ''He who has the Son has life...''
1. Apart from Jesus there is no life.
2. God's salvation is wrapped up in one Person. Jesus Christ.
3. Ill. After this two part series from I John we are going to focus on the cross and resurrection leading up to Easter.
B. SUBSTITUTES FOR SALVATION. ''He who does not have the Son does not have life.''
1. Salvation by heritage.
a. My mother was a Christian, so I must be a Christian.
b. ill. Like saying, I know your children are married, because you are married and your parents were married, etc.. Each must choose own life part- ner.
2. Salvation by sincerity. Doesn't matter what you believe as long as you believe.
ill. Drink glass of what I think is tea. May be sincere, but if it is filled with arsenic I'm just as dead.
3. Salvation by balance. Live a good life. Do ...
