Galatians 5:16-26
INTRODUCTION
A. ILLUSTRATION: ''The Gambling Man''. Article in the June 14th issue of ''Newsweek''. By line says, ''Michael Jordon's toughest opponent may be his lust for competition.'' The article is dealing with a book written about Jordan by Richard Esquinas. In this book he describes Jordon's gambling habits. The conclusion is Jordon may gam- ble because of an intense drive to compete.
B. This article describes man's greatest battle.
1. We have three opponents.
a. The devil
b. The world system
c. The flesh
2. Our greatest opponent is not the devil, nor the world. It's the flesh.
3. The flesh is a continual, constant opposition, but most of us understand little about the flesh. What is, how it operates, or how it manifests itself. We blame the devil when we have a more dangerous enemy.

I. THE CONCEPT OF THE FLESH
THE GREEK WORD IS ''SARX'' AND HAS SEVERAL MEANINGS.
A. THE FALLEN NATURE OF MAN
1. We are sinner by choice, but we are also sinners by nature.
2. Each of us inherited a fallen human nature.
ILLUSTRATION: You don't have to teach kids to do wrong; you have to teach them to do right.
B. PHYSICAL BODY
1. The flesh can refer to the physical body.
ILLUSTRATION: Some have a little more flesh than others.
2. The physical body plays an important part in the battle with the flesh. The body can get sick grow tired, and be weak.
ILLUSTRATION: Jesus, when in the Garden praying, told the disciples to watch because the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
C. THE TENDENCY TO SIN VS. 16 (LUST)
1. That's the meaning in this particular passage. Man is morally and spirit- ually weak.
2. We have tendency or bent towards:
a. Rebelling against God.
b. Choosing my own way
