INTRODUCTION

A. Is success a dirty word?

1. Many in our society think so.

2. What does the Bible say?

a. Nehemiah - When faced with the responsibility of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem said, ''The God of heaven will give us success.''

b. Joseph - Gen. 39:2. ''And the Lord was with Joseph and he be- came a successful man.''

3. God wants you to be successful.

B. What is success?

1. Many think that success only has to do with financial prosperity. Success may or may not have anything to do with financial prosperity.

a. Joseph was a slave.

b. Nehemiah gave up an honored position to undertake the challenge of rebuilding the walls.

2. George W. Truett, who for many years was the pastor of 1st Baptist Church Dallas, Tx. defined success this way. ''Success is to find the will of God for your life and then to do it.'' C. Today's lesson is about a woman who learned what true success is all about.

1. From the beginning God is preparing the way for her to be successful.

2. He does the same for our lives.

THE STORY BEGINS WITH:

I. SUBMISSION TO THE WILL OF GOD.

A. AN ORDAINED PLAN.

1. In vs. 11 we find Paul going directly to Philippi.

2. God was involved in the journey from the beginning.

3. Philippi was a colony of Rome.

ill. A citizen of Rome would be sent to an outlying area to populate that city. Rome would then make it a colony. -The people would take on the charac- ter of Rome. -Dress, language, law, etc..

ill. In Phil. 3:20 Paul used this to illus. his citizenship of heaven.

ill. We ought to be so submissive to the will of God people experience a little of heaven when they come into contact with us.

B. OBEDIENT PERSON.

1. In vs. 13 we are told Paul had a vision of a man. The first people he met were women.

2. Paul was a Pharisee. Pharisees had a prayer they prayed: In it they would thank God for 3 things:
