Introduction
A. Christ suffered emotionally physically, and
Spiritually on the cross.
Dr. William d. Edwards, journal of american med- ical association, says ''there has been a tendency to almost romanticize the crucifixion of jesus, to disguise the horror of what christ went through but death by crucifixion was in every sense of the word excruciating.'' this statement came from usa today. The description of the crucifixion that follows came from an article in the jama.
B. We have become desensitized to death, espec- ially violent death.
1. We have a steady diet of it.
2. It is so sensationalized.
3. It is scandalized.
Ill. Oj simpson case has become a media circus. Forgotten two people were horribly killed.
C. We have become desensitized to the death of jesus christ.
1. Does it move you the way it should?
2. Have you personalized it.
D. Today, i want us to personalize the cross.
I. The pain of it. ''Christ also once suffered...''
A. The emotional stress.
1. The emotional stress is seen in the experience of the garden. The lone- liness and the pressure were tremen- dous on jesus.
2. Bible says in luke 22:44 ''and being in agony, he prayed more earnestly. Then his sweat became like great drops of blood falling to the ground.''
Ill. Dr. William d. Edwards, md, says, ''although it is a rare phenomenon, bloody sweat (hematidrosis) may occur in highly emotional states or in per- sons with bleeding disorders. As a result of hemorrhage into the sweat glands, the skin becomes fragile and tender.''
B. The excruciating suffering.
Again dr. Edwards gives us insight into the suffering of jesus.
