Introduction

1. Whenever You Fly Commercial You Can
Always Count On Hearing Five Words to Come Over
The Intercom Sometime Into the Flight, “This Is
Your Captain Speaking.” Have You Ever Wondered
Why Pilots Use That Terminology? A Pilot Captain
Is the Most Experienced Pilot on the Plane. He Is
Responsible for the Flight, the Passengers, And
The Crew. He Is the Pilot With the Highest
Authority in the Aircraft and Is in Charge Of
Insuring All Necessary Procedures and Safety
Checks Are Carried Out Before the Flight, During
The Flight, and After the Flight. They Also Have
The Duty to Conduct Weather and Flight Plan
Checks, Coordinate With Air-Traffic Controllers
And Airport Personnel, and in Effect, for That
Flight He Owns That Aircraft.

2. The Reason Why They Use That Terminology
Is Psychologically Knowing That Some
Passengers Are Afraid of Flying and Other
Passengers May Be Nervous They Want to Show
Who Is in Charge. They Want to Show That The
Plane Is Under Good Control and Give Every
Passenger a Great Level of Confidence That They
Are Going to Make Their Destination. However,
Sometimes the Exact Opposition Occurs.

3. I Read About a Plane That Was Taking Off
From Laguardia Airport in New York and After
Reaching Cruising Altitude the Captain Came On
And Said, “Gentlemen, This Is Your Captain
Speaking. Welcome to Flight #123, Non-stop From
New York to Los Angles. The Weather Ahead Is
Good. We Should Have a Smooth and Uneventful
Flight. Now Sit Back, Relax, and Oh Dear God!”
The Intercom Went Off. For a Few Minutes It Was
Dead Silence. The Captain Finally Came Back On
And Said, “Ladies and Gentlemen, I Am So Sorry if I
Scared You Earlier, but While I Was Speaking The
Flight Attendant Brought Me a Cup of Coffee And
Spilled the Hot Coff ...
