Title: Sanctification: God at Work (4 of 4)
Series: Lost in Translation
Text: Philippians 1:6; 2:12-13
Author: James Merritt
Introduction
1. Why Are You Here? I Am Not Asking Why You
Are in This Building, at This Moment, or Why You
Are Where You Are Wherever You Are. I Am Asking
The Question, “What Is the Purpose - The Reason
To Your Existence?” Now, for All of You Who
Claim to Be a Follower of Jesus, What Many
People Would Call a “Christian” You Can Give Both
A General Answer and a Specific Answer.
2. Generally Speaking You Are Here for One
Reason - To Do the Will of God. I Don’t Mean To
Sound Like a Know-It-All, but if You Are a Believer,
A Jesus Follower, I Am Going to Tell You
Specifically What God’s Will Is for All of Us (for
You and for Me). It Doesn’t Matter Whether You
Have Been a Believer for Five Seconds or Five
Years. It Doesn’t Matter What Church You Attend
Or What Denomination You Belong To.
3. It Doesn’t Matter Whether You Have Been
Baptized or Not. The Reason I Can Tell You
Specifically What God’s Will Is, Is Because God
Has Told Us All Specifically What His Will is.the
Apostle Paul Said Definitively and Distinctly,
“It Is God’s Will That You Should Be
Sanctified...”. (I Thessalonians 4:3, Niv)
4. Now Listen to That Word “Sanctified.” (Let’s
Say That Word Together). We Are in a Series We
Have Been Calling “Lost in Translation.” We Have
Been Dealing With Some Big Biblical Words That
Even Many Christians Don’t Really Understand
The Meaning of -They Get Lost in Translation.
Sanctification Is One of the Most Important
Biblical Words and Yet We Don’t Hear Much About
It Anymore. Yet, We Better Understand What It
Means and What It Means to Be Sanctified or We
Are Going to Be Out of the Will of God. Let’s Begin
By Defining the Term. The Word Literally Means To
Be Set Apart.
