Introduction

1. As I Was Working on This Message I Was
Doing What Many Other People Around America
And Even the World Was Doing. I Was Watching The
Live News Conference of Tiger Woods on The
Tuesday Before the Masters Began at Augusta
National. Like So Many People, I Wanted to Hear
One Simple Thing Come From His Mouth, “I’m
Playing.” It Took Me Back to His Very First Press
Conference on August 28, 1996, Just Before His
First Professional Tournament.

2. The Room Was Packed, and the Entire Golf
World Had Tuned in to Listen to What Would Be
The First Words of This Phenom Who Has Gone On
To Become, Perhaps, the Greatest Golfer of All
Time Would Say. He Said Two Words That Changed
Golf and Golf Marketing Forever, “Hello World!”
In Two Days, Nike Launched the “Hello World” Ad
Campaign Which Had a Three Page Spread in The
Wall Street Journal and 30-and 60-Second Spots
On CBS and ESPN. They Were Obviously Trying
To Recoup the Forty-Three Million Dollars They
Had Already Promised Tiger if He Had Never
Played Around Round.

3. What if They Had Press Conferences Back In
Jesus’ Day? What if His Reputation Had Preceded
Him - This Mysterious Miracle Working Man, From A
No Name Family in Nazareth? Taking the World By
Storm, He Would Go On to Speak Things No One Had
Ever Heard Before, Do Things No One Had Ever
Seen Before, Claim Things No One Had Ever
Imagined Before. What Would Be His First Words?
Well, We Don’t Have to Wonder. One of His
Disciples Named Matthew Tells Us and It Was A
Shocker. He Did Have a Word for the World, but It
Wasn’t “Hello.” Here Is the Very First Word That
He Publicly Uttered.

“From That Time on Jesus Began To
Preach, ‘Repent, for the Kingdom Of
Heaven Has Come Near.’”(Matthew 4:17, Niv)
