Title: What To Do When You Don't Know What To Do (1 of 4)
Series: Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled
Text: John 14:1
Author: Samuel Burgess
INTRODUCTION:
{ILLUSTRATION}> I read a story a few years ago about a maintenance man at the St. Peters Church in the City of London. One day, the Minister of the Church discovered that the maintenance man was illiterate. This man couldn't read or write. The moment that the Minister discovered that the maintenance man was illiterate - he fired him. What was this maintenance man going to do?
This man now jobless took what little meager savings he had and invested it in a tiny tobacco shop. His business began to prosper; and in time he expanded by opening another tobacco shop ... Over the course of the next few years, he ended up with a chain of tobacco stores that was worth millions of dollars.
One day his banker said to him; "Sir, if you don't mind me saying so, you have done quite well for someone that is illiterate. My question to you is, Where would you be if you could read or write?" The man looked at the banker and said: "I would still be the maintenance man at St. Peters Church in London."
When I read that story, I began to think about the things we go through in our daily life; and I wander to myself; WHERE WOULD WE BE RIGHT NOW IF IT WERE NOT FOR DISAPPOINTMENTS THAT HAPPENED TO US?
There are times that what we considered to be the "Tragedies of Life" actually turn out to be THE TRIUMPHS OF LIFE! Those things we thought were 'breaking us down' turned out to be the very things that were BUILDING US UP! [God uses every painful event to develop...]
