I. Where are we headed?

I want to talk to you today about the Bible.

This is going to be a little different today...we usually talk about what the Bible says...but today
we're going to talk about why we care so much about what the Bible says.

One of our core values as a church is that we're bible-driven: we're compelled by the powerful
truth of God's Word.

- We're not compelled by what political parties or politicians say, we're compelled by
what the Bible says.

- We're not compelled by what celebrities say, we're compelled by what the Bible says.

- We're not compelled by what culture says, we're compelled by what the Bible says.

- We're compelled by the powerful truth of God's word...and we believe that the Bible is
God's word.

And I want to talk to you today about why we believe that.

For the past few weeks we've been in a series on what matters most in the Christian faith. If

what matters most:

1. There is one God of three Persons (the Trinity)

2. Sin separates us from God

3. God loves us and made a way for us (the Gospel)

4. The Gospel is personal - we accept it as individuals. But the big question for today is:
why do we believe those things? And the answer is: Because they're taught in the
Bible and we believe that:

5. The Bible is reliable

But why do we believe that? Why do we believe the Bible is reliable? That's what I want to talk
to you about today.

Now listen, I grew up in church. I grew up going to Sunday school we sang songs that said things
like: The B I B L E, yes that's the book for me, I stand alone on the word of God, the B I B L E

So I grew up believing the Bible was reliable, and honestly, I never really questioned that until I
got to college.
