I will never forget the day that I was walking into the back door of our high school and my friend was standing at the door. He looked at me and said, "Duck, did you drive today?" I quickly replied, "Yes" and before I knew it we were heading for the parking lot and would skip school for the day.

The year was 1977, and I was driving my dad's car, actually the only car that our family had at the time. On our way to the car, we ended up picking up four more people and we were off on an unplanned adventure, one that I would live to regret for many years.

One of the girls that went along for the ride had the bright idea to go by her house and pick up a jar of "Sadie's Homebrew." I had never tasted homebrew, so I had no clue. In time we had made our way from one end of the county to the other end, but whatever went on for most of that day, I still have no clue.

I do remember one of my friends having a hold of my head and pushing me back and forth into the cold river. In time we made our way back to school and dropped everyone off and I took one of my friends and dropped him off at his house. As I left his house, I ran into the ditch, before going back to town.

About two weeks later, I was beckoned to the office at school and when I picked up the phone, it was mom, and she said "You just wait until you get home." Then I heard a click and dead silence, before meekly walking back to my class. I had no clue what was a waiting my arrival at ...
