Title: The Lord's Supper
Text: 1 Corinthians 11:17-34

Introduction: Paul has just given the instructions for the worship service by saying the
male is supposed to cut his hair, and the woman is supposed to grow her hair as it is her
glory! Now we move into the instructions for the Lord's supper, which Paul had to
rebuke them on for their disobedience and contentions!

17 Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the
better, but for the worse.

The church had come together for the Lord's Supper, but they had turned it into
something that it was never intended it to be. 'Paul could not offer any praise for all the
divisions that they were experiencing in the Communion Services. It was not for the
better to memorialize the death of Christ, but for the worse with cliques and divisions!
18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions
among you; and I partly believe it.
The first problem was the divisions in the church! Paul says he partly believes it! That is
kind of throwing some irony into the situation. He partly believes it! They were known
for all the divisions and strife in the church! Now is has been revealed to Paul that they
were fussing and fighting and even turning he Lord's Supper into a big party, and Paul is
getting ready to instruct them on how to observe the Lord's Supper!
19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made
manifest among you.
There were some in the church who were involved in heresies! The word for "heresies"
in the Greek language carries the idea of,
