INTRODUCTION:
[ILLUSTRATION]> I heard Dr. David Jeremiah tell a story about Bill Fong, an Amateur
Bowler. The story caught my attention because what happened to him amazing. It was January
18th, 2010 Amateur Bowler Bill Fong was just 3 rolls away from perfection. This means 3
consecutive perfect games; a series: [a 900]. There have been only 21 perfect Bowling Series.
After 33 consecutive strikes, Bill walked up to the last frame, he gathered his Bowling ball;
stood there as he had done all 3 games, took his time; stepped forward and bowled a strike.
Then another strike. Now he is at 35 strikes in a row; and as you can imagine, the crowd went
wild.
But something was wrong with Bill. 2 frames back Bill began to sweat profusely, and he felt
dizzy. He was only one roll from history. Bill took the ball; pulled to his chest; took his 5 steps,
and released the ball perfectly. The crowd began to react before the ball hit the pens; that's how
perfect the roll was.
The ball was rolled perfectly, with perfect spin, the ball hit the pins at the right spot; the pins
flew; and the #10 pin wabbled, but settled back onto his base. 899 for Bill Fong, not 900. One
pin short of perfection.
Broken hearted, Bill headed back home. The dizziness that began on frame #34 had not
improved. Bill staggered into his bathroom and threw up. The walls continued to spin and Bill
fell asleep. When he woke up the next morning, he realized that he had suffered a stroke.
Later in 2010, Bill Fong had surgery at the age of 46. He survived despite a 70% chance he
wouldn't. The Doctors told Bill that the only thing that saved his life the night that last pin
didn't fall to reach perfect [night of 899] was that the 10 pin stayed up. Had that last pin had not
stayed up, the Doctor said that Bill's body was in the midst of ...
