Last week we started on our summer series in the book of Romans.
Romans is widely regarded as Paul’s greatest work. Coleridge actually called this letter “the most profound work in existence.”
When I read/study I see so many important doctrines (teachings) outlined, I see the personal and pastoral heart of Paul and how he really cared for the people in the church. I also see the boldness and the courage to write/speak the truth, which is also an important pastoral characteristic.
I’m going to break the rest of this chapter up into three sections, so buckle up! If I have any reservations about teaching/preaching Romans, it’s in the hope that I can do it justice so let’s pray hard!
Romans 1:8–11 (ESV)
8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world.
First of all, this verse just inspires and challenges me…and I hope it does you as well. I believe in a church that makes a sound in worship, makes a difference in caring, makes a difference in community, makes a difference in giving and makes a difference in partnering with what Jesus is building…the church.
It’s a question I ask myself, what sound are we making?
And what sound are you making? And what is our community hearing?

9For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you
10always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God’s will I may now at last succeed in coming to you.
11For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you—
