Romans 1:1–7 (ESV)
1Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,
2which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures,
3concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh
4and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,
5through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations,
6including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ,
7To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

We are opening up our summer series this morning on the book of Romans. It’s been called Paul’s greatest work, greatest writing.

I’m excited, but it’s a daunting task! I think we could teach the whole summer on Chapter One of Romans. We will do our best to highlight some incredible truth, principles and challenges as we move forward.

Romans teaches that we don’t trust in ourselves, but only in Christ, for salvation.

That “faith” is the declaration and decision that anchors us to salvation

Romans teaches man's sinfulness, justification by faith, regeneration, union with Christ, adoption, and sanctification.

That the faith of Abraham should be imitated
That we should be patient in trouble, have peace in struggle
Be dead to sin, hope in the future, pray and proclaim the gospel…
That sin is not to be taken lightly, that there is judgement and that there is hope

Romans reminds us how sinful we are, and teaches us how loved we are
Romans shows us applications in life, in the church, in our community…
