Why in the world would I begin this message with a musical video like that? They kept singing 'We will remember, we will remember, we will remember the work of your hands!" Why would we start there??

It is because in our fallen nature as humans, we tend to forget. We don't just forget small things; we have the capacity to forget big things. All across our nation we have memorials, statues, and buildings, which commemorate important times in the life of this nation. Why did we do this? Because this nation is so unique that our leaders do not want us to forget the cost of getting us this far.

We tend to forget those who Serve, so we set up veteran's day.

We tend to forget those who Sacrifice, so we set up memorial day.

We tend to forget those who Saw the future, so we set up Independence day.

Like it or not, we tend to forget (and the older we get, the easier it is to forget). ?Today, let us not forget those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom, they laid down their lives. Never minimize the hurt, heartbreak, and pain, of those who have given the life of a loved one so that we can be free to do what we are doing this morning. The cost, hurt, heartbreak is great. Today, we call these families GOLD STAR FAMILIES because they gave their precious gold of an immediate family member's life. By the way, our last revival preacher is a GOLD STAR family. Their son, in his 20's, Justin Ray Mixon, on June 1, 2008, was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq. They'll never forget and now that this is so personal for me, that I'll never forget. TO NOT FORGET, IT HAS TO BE PERSONAL.

When it comes to Biblical and Spiritual things, we learn from God's word that 'forgetting' is a reality and a real danger. Case in point, the Children of Israel.
