Title: Catholicism
Series: The Elephant in the Room (4 of 6)
Scripture: 2 Timothy 4:3-4
Author: Dr. Joey Rodgers
I'm not sure I'll ever forget it. As I stood just inside the entrance to the Sepulcher in Paris as parishioners began pouring it, there was one lady whose actions caught my attention. Maybe it was her obvious love for Jesus... or maybe it was her reverence, humble spirit - yet when she fell at the feet of the life-size crucifix and began kissing the feet of Jesus as she wept - there was no mistaking her affection for the Savior.
As we continue our study of the different religions and cults, today we're going to look w/in Christianity to consider the beliefs/practices of Catholicism.
As we've discussed over the past (3), unlike the elephant analogy that attempts to say that so long as you believe in something touching God, then your ok - we learn from the Law of Non-Contradiction that something can't be both true and untrue at the same time w/in the same context. So, since every religion/cult has differing beliefs w/in the same context - it's not possible they're all right - although we certainly can all be wrong.
Meaning - if Scientology is right then Hinduism, and every other way, is wrong? If Muhammed was God's true messenger, then L. Ron Hubbard has missed the mark. But if Jesus is God's only way, truth, and life as He claimed, then there are no other avenues to God.
Before I get started you need to know a few things:
-I was raised in Catholic/Episcopal and I have many family/friends whom I love who are Catholic.
-Many, many Catholics have a true faith in Christ
-Not all Cath. know/agree w/ RCC beliefs/practices
Like w/ many people, many RCC Christians have been converted to Christ thru the Gospel IN SPITE of what the RCC teaches, and not B/C of it.
Like w/in most religions, there are many subgroups in RCC. In general, most Catholics fall into 1 of 5 different categories w/ some crossover:
-Ultra-Traditionalists ...
