Title: THE WAR WITHIN (15)
Series: James
Scripture: James 4:1-3
Author: Stephen Whitney
One of the biggest changes that took place in the 1960's was when the Beatles came to the U.S. They not only brought a different kind of band with electric guitars and drums, but they also brought a new kind of music. Their success soon led to other bands also coming from England like the band called the Rolling Stones.
During the night of May 9, 1965 while they were in Clearwater, Florida one of the band members named Keith Richards woke up with a tune running through his mind and he quickly recorded it.Later he said, "I dreamt this tune. That was the first time it had happened to me. I just woke up, picked up the guitar and . . .'I can't get no . . . satisfaction . . .' It was funny 'cause that night I was so tired; I pushed the button and I got the guitar and I ran through the sequence once. On the tape you can hear me drop the pick and the rest of the tape is me snoring."
On July 10th the song "Satisfaction" became their first American number one hit. The words were: I try and I try but I can't get no, I can't get no, I can't get no . . . satisfaction.
It became so popular because it seemed to sum up the frustrations people experienced in the 1960's. When a poll was taken of people in the music industry of the 100 greatest rock 'n' roll songs of all time, the song "Satisfaction" was listed as the number one.
It beat out such songs as "Hey Jude" by the Beatles, "Imagine"
by John Lennon and "Jailhouse Rock" by Elvis Presley because it defined a generation that could not get "Satisfaction" no matter how hard it tried.
Satan loves to have us frustrated because we didn't get what we wanted or feel we deserve. When we feel that way we often attack criticize and condemn others because they have the position, talent, looks, ability, clothes, family, car or job that we want.
Real satisfaction comes from desiring God himself.
