So great to have you with us this morning. We are just a week away from Palm Sunday and two weeks away from Easter Sunday. Find 1 John 2 with me and bookmark 2 Thessalonians 2 as well because we will be there in the moments to come.
John is old by the time he writes the letters we call First, Second, and Third John. The early church historian, Eusebius, tells us that the Apostle John had returned from his exile on the island of Patmos, where he had received the visions that is the book of Revelation. When he returned from his banishment, clergy from all over would travel to Ephesus in order to learn from the Apostle John and hear his stories about Jesus.1 Of course, all the other original Twelve Disciples had died by this time, and only John was left. So John's stories about Jesus were worth every bit of the difficulty of traveling to see him. Now, if ancient clergy made the journey to hear from the elderly John, we should listen to him right here and now.

This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also. 24 Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then ...
