If you have your Bible, please turn to Ephesians chapter 4. We want to talk today in our series, The Divine Design: God's Plan for Marriage and Family, about having a happy home. You know, we have so many homes today that would call themselves Christians, but they're not very happy, and they are characterized by fighting and yelling much more than they are with peace and love and joy.
I heard about two guys. They were talking in the breakroom at work. One was an older gentleman, and one was a young guy. And the young guy told the older guy, "Hey, my first anniversary is coming up. I'm thinking about what to get my wife." And the older guy said, "Well, you know, I've been married a long time. Son, it's really important to get your wife a good gift on your anniversary. For my 25th wedding anniversary I took my wife to France." The guy said, "Man, that's pretty good. Well, what are you going to do for your 50th?" He said, "I'm thinking about going back to get her!" Not a happy home.
You know, when I was a kid growing up, watching fairy tales, that was just kind of a staple in our house. You know, Disney would have a show on. It's not like it is today. I mean, if one of those movies came on, you would watch it because you had like five channels total, and so that was a big deal when that came on. You know, there were shows that we grew up with and books that we grew up with, Snow White and Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. All of those were similar kind of story lines. It's this handsome prince and this beautiful girl, and somehow, they get together in these magical kind of situations. When the story closes, it always made you feel good, but it would end this way, "....and they lived happily ever after." I can remember watching cartoons, and they lived happily ever after.
