And last week, we talked about the husband, and we had a message that I entitled, What's a Husband To Do? And this week, we're going to talk to the wives, What's a Wife To Do?
I was at the store yesterday getting a gift for my wife who has a birthday coming up in just a couple of days. The lady behind the counter said, "I watch you on television. I'm thinking about coming to your church." I said, "Well, great! We would love to have you. This Sunday I'm preaching on What's a Wife To Do?" She said, "I'm not coming. I'll come next week." What is a husband to do? What is a wife to do?
One of my favorite stories is about a husband and wife. They were fighting all the time, just couldn't get along. And it was just day after day, week after week, month after month. Finally, the wife said, "I just can't take it anymore." She said, "I've come to the place in my prayer life where I'm praying for God to kill one of us. And when God answers my prayer, I'm moving in with my sister!" That's not what a wife is to do, to pray that God would kill her husband. But what is a wife to do? Well, God tells us in His Word what is a wife to do.
Now, there are two big problems in marriage, two big problems - ignorance and selfishness, ignorance and selfishness. Ignorance, "I don't know what I'm supposed to do." And so, we want to work on that today to say, "Thus says the LORD, this is what you're supposed to do as a wife." And then we deal with selfishness, "Am I willing to do what God says to do?"
