Have you ever had a responsibility that you didn't know you had? It's a terrible feeling to have a responsibility that you don't know that you have. I have had a recurring dream over the years. I'm on campus at the University of Texas. I'm very close to graduating. It's during finals week. And I see a friend of mine, and he says to me in my dream, "Are you ready for the Chemistry final?" And I said, "Chemistry? I didn't even know I had that class." He said, "Yeah, you're in the class. We have a final this afternoon." And I'm thinking to myself, I have to learn chemistry in the next three hours to pass the final to graduate from college. I wake up, and I am in a cold sweat, so to speak, because my heart was gripped with fear. I had a responsibility, and I didn't understand that I had it. Not a good feeling.
Well, we're in a series on the family called The Divine Design: God's Plan for Marriage and Family. And today, we want to talk about the responsibility God has given husbands. What is a husband to do? Many husbands don't know what they're supposed to do. I mean, they kind of have a general idea, but they don't really know from the Lord what they're supposed to do. They don't know their job description and because they don't know what to do, they don't do it very well. Obviously, if you don't know it, you don't do it. And they're not ready for the final exam. Because listen, guys, all you married guys, there is a final exam. And one of the questions on the final as we stand before the Lord is, how well did you do this thing called being a husband? You have to prepare for the final. Jesus said this, John 13:17: "If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them." The blessing is not in the knowing; it's in the doing, but you have to know in order to do. If you don't know, then you're not go ...
